Nice Asian music caught my ear on 15265 around 1430 Feb 3, pausing for announcement mentioning MHz, but could not catch an ID. PWBR ``2005`` no help --- certainly not the station it would suggest, R. SANTEC in English to SE Asia! HFCC B-04 no help either. The answer in EiBi`s list: R. Solh, the service to Afghanistan from Rampisham UK, 1300-1500. At 1438 they were talking about Taleban and Afghanistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Radio Solh, 21620 with excellent signal S30 [meaning 30 over 9?], 55545 on 0740 Feb 3. Mainly songs and short comments or IDs "Da radio Solh" in between two songs. On tune in 0730 and again 0930 for about 10 minutes signal was only S2. Some transmitter switch on-off problems at 1025. Also on 17710 with a steady signal between 1200 and 1300 and a S10 (but good 44444) signal on 15265. I can suppose a very close transmitting site: Bulgaria? (Zacharias Liangas, Feb 3, Thessaloniki, Greece snowbound! DX LISTENING DIGEST) If transmitted from Bulgaria, these strong signals, especially 21620, would be skipping over you. Strength is not proportional to proximity on SW! All these are listed as Rampisham, UK (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ANGOLA. 4950, Radio Nacional, 0215-0232 Feb 3. Noted a man in Portuguese comments with TC's and ID. At 0230 Portuguese Pop music presented. Signal at 0230 was "armchair", or really good here in Clewiston, Florida. ADOPT A RADIO STATION? Glenn, Is this a hairbrain idea? As I was reviewing the latest issue of DXLD, I thought to myself, "It sure would be great if someone tipped off these stations when they were active so we could get a chance to hear them?" Then I thought "what about assigning a Radio Station to individuals who DX and each person would set up a spare receiver on his station`s frequency and put it on Speaker Watch. We could call the program, "Adopt a Radio Station". This would be similar to the "Adopt a Road" where individuals are responsible for cleaning up a certain section of a road or highway here in the States. Is that program still alive? Anyway, I'll take Radio Nacional, Angola on 4950. They play just good music in the evenings. Right now (0314 UT) they are booming in on 4950 (Chuck Bolland, February 3, 2005, DX LISTENING DIGEST) On 3 Feb at 1858, R. Nacional de Angola on 4950 had a full ID including SW and FM frequencies. Unfortunately I had no recording on at that time. Worth checking at that time to see what frequencies are actually on (or announced). (Jari Savolainen, Kuusankoski, Finland, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** AUSTRALIA. 2310 kHz, Alice Springs, VL8A; 1105 cricket match play by play, man in English with announcements, popular/vocal music. 1128 UT Feb 4, ads with man & woman. Fair signal, // 2485 much weaker (Steven Wiseblood, Brownsville, TX, DX-399 with 75'LW, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** AUSTRALIA. Realmente impresionante, no??? ;) (Horacio Nigro, Uruguay, ibid.) (Arnaldo Slaen, ibid.) ** AUSTRIA. AWR will use 6015 instead of 7235 for German 1600-1629 via Moosbrunn, for the time being until Feb 7. 6015 will be kept if it proves to be better than 7235 which at present suffers from severe skipping problems (Lothar Klepp, AWR, A-DX, summary translation by Kai Ludwig for DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BOTSWANA. At 1600 hours Z and later, only mere 10 to 20 Hz difference between VOA and Turkmen R., very hard to "kill" the other signal with notch and LSB/USB. I recommend to try and listen to the African morning time transmission here in Europe. 73's, (Matti Ponkamo, OH1GPU - Drake R4-C, SONY 2010D, Kenwood TH-F7, 20m Dipole, dxing.info via DXLD) ** BRAZIL. Contatos: Rádio Gaúcha, A/C Eng. Inconfidência, 6010, also being heard on 5910. The original report definitely said 5910, but some subsequent discussion took it to be 5190, and then people tried to make it a double-IF mixing product from 6010 (even tho that would be unlikely at a separation of 820 kHz); and then reported on 5950 instead, but was that really the same station?: (gh) Sarmento, Francisco, Ouço com perfeição a Inconfidencia aqui em São Bernardo em 5950... A emissora precisou adquirir novo equipamento. Antes, a emissora desligava o transmissor cedo. Fui conferir. O sítio do grupo religioso é: http://www.milicia.org.br 73s! SEVERAL readers expressed views agreeing with those of EDWIN SOUTHWELL about stations going off air. A reported quote said to be from the Director of Radio Canada International inferred that RCI has no intention to leave shortwaves. Not after listeners around the world made their positive intentions known to the station some years back when the then government was considering cutting the station's funding. Now that's a plus for DXer's. RCI celebrate 60 years of broadcasting this month. After the 1942 assault on Dieppe mainly by Canadians which Churchill aborted after things went wrong the Canadian government decided to broadcast to its forces overseas. War news and world affairs by Canadians for Canadians, but after many delays it was early 1945 with the war in Europe almost over before the broadcasts actually commenced (Arthur Ward? Feb World DX Club Contact via Alan Roe, DXLD) Radio Canada International is celebrating its 60th anniversary on February 25th. Commies vs commies! It`s been going on since the beginning of the B-04 season, and is obviously not going to be corrected now --- the collision between Habana and Beijing on 15230 kHz in the 1400 UT hour. Just reconfirmed Feb 3 and 4 around 1415 during Voces de la Revolución, the weekdaily half-hour presenting fragments of Fidel himself --- have they gotten past the Second Habana Declaration yet?? But one of CRI`s expanded relays via Canada is also using 15230 for English to North America during that hour. The relative strength can vary somewhat from day to day: normally China/Canada is on top, but there`s plenty of Cuba underneath to make both stations unlistenable. One can try, by mentally switching into Spanish-mode or English-mode, ignoring the other language, sort of like ignoring any other kind of noise or interference. The scheduling wizards at these stations apparently thought this would not be a problem, since Habana is aiming toward South America (we think, lacking any HFCC public registration) and Sackville is 240 degrees right across the American heartland. But there`s plenty of extraneous radiation from Habana up here, surprise, surprise (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CZECH REPUBLIC. PERMIT FOR NEW AM RADIO STATION BOUGHT FOR $60,000 TheBuzz, Erika Engle, Thursday, February 3, 2005 http://starbulletin.com/2005/02/03/business/engle.html KAUAI-based Hochman-McCann Hawaii Inc. has purchased the license to build a 19th Honolulu AM radio station. Partners George Hochman and Oahu-based Byron McCann bought the construction permit for KRUD-AM 1130 from Memphis-based broadcaster George S. Flinn Jr. for $60,000, according to documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC has approved the transfer of the broadcast license and the financial part of the deal will close soon, Hochman said. "We're going to put it on, hopefully by summertime, but we've got to build it," said Hochman. The studios will share space with Hono-lulu sister- station KORL-AM 690. Separately, Hochman owns Kauai's KITH-FM 98.9 and KTOH-FM 99.9 and Maui's KONI-FM 104.7. Hochman-McCann paid $550,000 for KORL in 2003. The station carries multicultural programming provided by individuals and businesses that purchase blocks of air time. "It's kind of like old-time radio. There's no formula, no 'gotta be No. 1 (mentality).' They just super- serve their communities and we get really good response," Hochman said. KORL carries primarily Japanese, Filipino, Chinese and some Spanish- language programming. Hochman plans a similar format for the new station, which will not be seen as serious competition by Honolulu's larger radio operators. "I'm not going to be silly enough to try to compete on a little 500- watt AM station," he said. "I don't think we're going to be knocking off Perry and Price." One of his first orders of business will be to request a call letter change from the FCC. "If I had a sports station I'd probably keep 'em," as sort of a tongue-in-cheek, fun handle, "but no, I don't want to be known as 'cruddy radio'," he said (via Andy Sennitt, dxldyg via DXLD) ** ITALY. JAPAN: FORMER NHK HEAD RESIGNS AS ASIAN BROADCASTING UNION CHIEF | Text of report in English by Japanese news agency Kyodo Tokyo, 4 February: Former NHK President Katsuji Ebisawa resigned as president of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union in January, when he also resigned as chief of Japan's public broadcaster, sources close to the matter said Friday [4 February]. The resignation took effect [on] 25 January, the day his resignation was accepted by an NHK management committee, the sources said. NHK's official name is Japan Broadcasting Corp. Ebisawa had to leave his ABU post because it is conventionally taken by a top executive of the group's member broadcasting companies. ABU Vice-President Zainal Abidin Iberahim, director of news and current affairs at RTM Malaysia, is now acting president. The next president will be elected in November when the association holds a general meeting in Hanoi. Ebisawa assumed the top ABU position in January 1999 and was in his third term. The ABU is an association of broadcasting organizations formed in 1964 to facilitate the development of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region and to organize cooperative activities among its members, according to the association. NHK took the initiative to inaugurate the ABU. It has more than 130 members in 54 countries, with its broadcaster members reaching a potential audience of about 3 billion people, according to the ABU. Ebisawa resigned as NHK president as the broadcaster faces financial difficulty in compiling its budget due largely to viewer refusal to pay subscription fees following a series of embezzlement scandals that surfaced in July last year. AMERICAN SAMOA: SECOND FREE-TO-AIR TV TO LAUNCH 1 MAY | Text of report by Samoan newspaper Samoa Observer web site on 3 February A second free-to-air television station is scheduled to be launched in American Samoa on 1 May. To be called KHJ-TV, the station will be run by South Seas Broadcasting Inc. It also operates the popular radio station 93KHJ-FM. 93KHJ General Manager John Summers said the new TV station will be an affiliate of the NBC-TV network. KHJ-TV, he said in a statement, will bring "mainland-style" television to the territory for the first time. 93KHJ's Joey Cummings will be in charge of the operations side of the TV station and 93KHJ's Monica Miller will head the news department. The station plans to feature daily local news broadcasts at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. [local time, 0700 and 1100 gmt] on weekdays, possibly expanding to weekend local news broadcasts in the future. "We've been working on this project for years," said Mr Summers. "We felt the time was right for the territory to have a 'real' US-style TV station, complete with local news broadcasts." Unlike government-owned and run KVZK-TV, he said, the new station will air commercials for local businesses. The 1 May launch coincides with the fifth anniversary of 93KHJ-FM. The signal will be available on UHF channel 30 and on American Samoa Cablevision. South Seas Broadcasting President Larry Fuss, in the same statement, said that he was "thrilled to be able to bring NBC programming to American Samoa". The TV station will be housed on the second floor of Pago Plaza, adjacent to the radio station. "It's very small," said Mr Cummings, "but computers now make it possible to do a lot of things in a small space." NEW FM STATION NEEDS TALENT --- By Keith Uhlig, Wausau Daily Herald --- "low power" radio Mon, Oct 25, 2004 http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/wdhlocal/294672934744177.shtml Frustrated disc jockeys, Rush Limbaugh wannabes and silken-voiced announcers without a forum, Northcentral Technical College wants you. NTC has received a license from the Federal Communications Commission to operate a small, 6-watt community radio station. Officials are shopping around for radio equipment now, and the station needs to be up and running by April, said Stephanie Smith, NTC's director of community relations. The station will operate under the call letters WNRB and will be found on the FM dial at 93.3 - that is, if the radio is located in the general Wausau area. The station will operate at least 12 hours a day, and eight of those have to be original programming. On the air People interested in being on-air radio personalities or disc jockeys or simply interested working behind the scenes on Northcentral Technical College's new community radio station can learn more by calling Stephanie Smith, NTC's director of community relations, at 675-3331 Ext. 4182. That's both a problem and an opportunity, Smith said. Those hours of radio time are a blank slate, and right now, no one knows exactly how they'll be filled. Smith said members of the community are welcome to try what they want on the community station. Got a great collection of Johnny Cash records you want to share? Come on in. There are plenty of ideas floating around, Smith said. There's talk about NTC having a call-in gardening show. Other staffers think a segment about parenting could be interesting. Some are mulling a program that would encourage literacy and reading. College officials also hope the station could be used to reach out to newer immigrants in the Wausau area in their native languages, and they envision having programming in both Hmong and Spanish. "It is definitely needed in this community," said Abner Cruz, the president of Latinos Unidos, a group that works to empower Hispanics in north central Wisconsin. "It would be a great instrument for the community ... helping minorities understand the resources available to them." Peter Yang, the chief operating officer of the Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association, is equally excited about the potential of the new station. The Hmong Mutual Association already works to provide a half-hour television show, which airs at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays on WJFW-TV 12 and a radio show on WXCO-AM (1230) from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Sundays. But more air time would be helpful. "It certainly is an opportunity for us to expand our radio operation," Yang said. "We'd like to maybe even have a live talk show. I think that kind of program would generate some interest in the Hmong community." Smith said NTC applied for the permit in 2001. "We saw this as an opportunity to offer another resource in the community ... a way that NTC could reach out to various groups," Smith said. "We're at the point now that we want the community to know about it. We're going to need its help to produce programming." Northcentral Technical College's new noncommercial, six-watt community radio station is looking for community volunteers to help create programming for the station. The station, which will begin airing in the spring, will operate under the call letters WNRB and will be found on the FM dial at 93.3. A series of informational meetings will be held in January and February at Northcentral Technical College for those interested in hosting shows. The meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in room D101; at noon Feb. 1 in room E101-102; and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 in room E101-102. Dino Corvino, the station's volunteer manager, sees the radio station as a chance for Wausau area residents to talk to each other. "If a volunteer wants to share an interest with others, community radio provides a way to do it," he said. The station's programming is expected to run the gamut and include poetry readings, music and talk shows. Stephanie Smith, NTC's director of community relations, has said the station also will be used to reach out to immigrant populations, using Hmong and Spanish language programming. The station will operate at least 12 hours a day, eight of which will be original programming. After that, the nighttime frequency of 3945 kHz will also be put back on full power as quickly as possible. The renovation has been made possible with financial assistance from the New Zealand Government and Radio Australia. After the shortwave service is fixed, it will be the turn of the mediumwave transmitters in Santo and Vila, which will have to be sent to Australia to be examined by technicians to get an idea how much they will cost to repair. ZIMBABWE REPORTEDLY PROBING JOURNALISTS WORKING FOR FOREIGN MEDIA | Text of report attributed to ZimOnline entitled "State secret agents sniff out journalists stringing for foreign media" published by South Africa-based Zim Online web site on 3 February Harare: The government's secret service Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) is investigating several journalists it accuses of working with foreign media and hostile countries to tarnish Zimbabwe's image abroad. Sources within the CIO yesterday said that a decision to probe the media was taken at a meeting of senior operatives of the agency held in Harare last week. Journalists targeted for investigation are those working for international news agencies such as Reuters, Associated Press and those suspected of working for ZimOnline and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the sources said. ZimOnline is based in Johannesburg because it cannot operate in Zimbabwe where the government's Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) outlaws robust and independent journalism. ZimOnline employs more than 20 journalists based inside Zimbabwe but all working under cover for fear of victimisation by state security agents. The BBC is officially banned in Zimbabwe. One CIO officer, who did not want to be named, said: "There are journalists who are making a living by selling damaging information to our enemies and it was resolved that they should account for their actions. A probe team involving intelligence officers and guys from law and order (a police department) is already working on that." State Security Minister Nicholas Goche, in charge of the CIO, refused to take questions on the matter, saying "issues about intelligence work are not for public consumption". Zimbabwe Union of Journalists secretary-general Foster Dongozi condemned the probing of journalists by the secret service, saying it was an attempt to intimidate and muzzle the media. "Journalists in Zimbabwe are already under siege and we strongly condemn this latest attempt to further intimidate us," said Dongozi. He added: "As journalists, we are going to mobilize our members and friends of the profession against any further attempts to muzzle us." Zimbabwe is ranked among the most repressive environments for journalists in the world. In the last three years, hundreds of journalists have been arrested and three newspapers including the country's biggest and only independent daily, the Daily News, were shut down by the government. Regards (DW 1907) (Des Walsh, Feb World DX Club Contact via DXLD) Not much except Ascension-analog 21470 propagating on 13m, Feb 3 at 1415 bandscan, but did hear some DRM centred at 21650 --- nothing listed in the by-time schedule at http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/features/media/dossiers/drm_schedule.html --- so what was this? The DRM schedule by frequency, http://www.hfcc.org/data/B04drm.html has more up-to-date info, mostly what must be special broadcasts for HFCC in Mexico City, note the limited dates, including the first DRM tests from French Guiana we were promised last November in Dallas, the final entry being 21645, apparently already testing before the official start date; well, it sounded like it was centred on 21650, but this isn`t always easy to determine on an analog receiver. DRM long hours from GUF on 21645 will surely have a negative impact on BBC-Ascension, and Riyadh, both on 21640. I`ve extracted the new DRM transmissions about to start in Feb. Some of them were going on before but for some reason have a new start date with the same info; note that some are M-F only, 12345: 9800 2045 2130 7NE,8N Vatican Radio RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 268 70 1234567 2005-02-12 2005-03-26 13670 1800 2045 10 Radio Canada International RCI VARIOUS Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 13690 2045 2130 10 Vatican Radio RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 13690 2130 2200 10 Radio Nederland Wereldomroep RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 13690 2200 2300 10 Radio Canada International RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 13690 2300 2330 10 Deutsche Welle RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 13690 2330 2400 10 Radio Sweden International RCI ENGLISH Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 15 15265 1500 1800 10 Radio Canada International RCI VARIOUS Sackville 45N53 064W19 240 70 12345 2005-02-07 2005-02-11 17875 1100 2100 7S,8S Digital Radio Mondial TDF Various Montsinery 04N54 052W36 168 30 1234567 2005-02-06 2005-02-15 21645 1300 2100 7S,8S,10,11S,12N Digital Radio Mondial TDF French Montsinery 04N54 052W36 295 30 1234567 2005-02-06 2005-02-11 Neither version yet shows the 1060 and 25620 tests from R. Educación in Mexico DF, previously reported in DXLD! See also MEXICO. Also heard DRM around 15375 Feb 4 at 2315, not on any of the schedules. What could that be? Santiago maybe with a secret test, as it is scheduled there in analog after 0000? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This demonstrates the problem we have. HFCC has an internal mailing list, but DRM information isn't shared with others, even those such as Klaus Schneider who compiles the schedule not just for us, but also for the official DRM site. Unfortunately, I believe the HFCC data only includes info from members of HFCC, and no MW/LW transmissions. We originally attempted to compile a schedule ourselves at Radio Netherlands, but my colleague Jan Peter Werkman was frustrated at the non-coöperation of some broadcasters in sending their information in a timely manner. I fear that this is going to be an ongoing problem even after the commercial launch of DRM :-( (Andy Sennitt, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) In that regard, it seems that the "tradition" just continues from the analog age through to the coming (?) digital one. As one who has tried for decades (often in vain) to obtain timely notice of schedule changes et al from international broadcasters, I can attest to this sad fact. CONFERENCE IN PARIS, FEBRUARY 6-9 From February 6th through 9th, Le Radio! participants will have the opportunity to hear Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) broadcasts on mediumwave and shortwave on existing consumer and software receivers at the DRM stand in the Paris Expo. DRM`s European commercial launch will take place later this year. "France is a key market for DRM, and DRM is a key digital solution for AM in France," says Michel Penneroux of TDF, DRM`s Commercial Committee Chairman. "The French government is backing digital media - digital television broadcasts have just begun, and digital radio is next. On January 27, French Minister of Industry Patrick Devedjan stated that digital radio will take off in 2005. DRM will launch a new, French web site this spring to herald our approaching European commercial debut. DRM has built a strong coalition in France in preparation for the upcoming market launch." To be showcased at the DRM Stand at Le Radio! this year: - MAYAH`s DRM 2010 receiver, a 2nd generation receiver. It is a joint development by Coding Technologies, BBC R&D, and DRM Supporters MAYAH and AFG Engineering GmbH. - DRM Member BBC will display DRM transmissions from the UK to France on shortwave, including an audio-on-demand service. BBC will also demonstrate a data service that connects to the DRM 2010 via USB. - TDF will demonstrate live, local mediumwave transmissions, and will showcase a software receiver. - The Digital World Traveller from DRM Member Coding Technologies: It is a small, USB device that connects to a PC or a laptop without needing any additional power supply or battery. It comes with the Digital World Traveller Radio Software, and can receive DRM, FM and AM programmes. # posted by Andy @ 17:25 UT Feb 3 (Media Network blog via DXLD) RADIO EQUIPMENT FORUM +++++++++++++++++++++ COUNTY COMM GP-4L --- World's Smallest Digital Shortwave (3.4" X 2.55" X .83") General Purpose, 4-Band Shortwave Receiver With Emergency Light, $22.00 http://www.countycomm.com/gp4light.htm (via David Toste, Feb 4, ODXA via DXLD) STEEPLETONE DIGITAL WORLD RADIO Now there's a name that once appeared in almost every logbook but seldom mentioned today. The latest arrival was the huge structure that was once the most powerful telegraph transmitter in the world. The copper tuning coil was built at Rugby Radio Station as a replacement for the original which was destroyed by fire in 1943 when Government policy was to develop powerful radio transmitters that linked the empire by radio. The American whitewood frame is 11 metres high and eight metres long housing six copper coils fixed with wooden bolts. Later nylon bolts were used to provide better insulation. Firstly it transmitted Morse on 16 kHz at 350 kW. During WW11 it was used to carry communications to the Royal Navy, merchant shipping and the French Resistance and later it was used as a contact to shipping and submarines during the Cold War. It was decommissioned in March 2003 when the Rugby facility in the main closed down. It has been donated by BT as there is little use for the coil today as its role has been taken over by satellites. It is due to go on display in the spring. Wroughton has open days and can organise guided tours for groups or individuals. The process is not well understood, but scientists speculate it could one day be employed to light a city or generate celestial advertisements. Researchers with the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) project in Alaska tickled the upper atmosphere to the extent that it glowed with green speckles. The speckles were sprinkled amid a natural display known as the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights. The aurora occurs when electrons from a cloud of hot gas, known as plasma, rain down from space and excite molecules in the ionosphere, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) up. The HAARP experiment involves acres of antennas and a 1 megawatt generator. The scientists sent radio pulses skyward every 7.5 seconds, explained team leader Todd Pederson of the Air Force Research Laboratory. "The radio waves travel up to the ionosphere, where they excite the electrons in the plasma," Pederson told LiveScience. "These electrons then collide with atmospheric gasses, which then give off light, as in a neon tube." Pederson and his colleagues missed the show, but they snapped images. "We unfortunately were indoors watching the data on monitors during the experiment and were busy scrambling trying to make sure the effects were real and not some glitch with the equipment," he said. "We knew right away it was something extraordinary to show up in real time on the monitor against the natural aurora, but did not confirm that it would have been visible to the naked eye until a day or two later when we had a chance to calibrate the raw data." The experiment is detailed in the Feb. 2 issue of the journal Nature. The research could improve understanding of the aurora and also help explain how the ionosphere adversely affects radio communications. It is not yet clear if the aurora must already be active before an artificial sky show can be induced, says Karl Ziemelis, chief physics editor at the journal. If no pre-existing aurora is required, Ziemelis said, "we are left with the tantalizing (some would say disconcerting) possibility that such radio-fuelled emissions could form the basis of a technology for urban lighting, celestial advertising, and more." === Images from the HAARP camera showing speckle-like artificial optical emissions superimposed on the background natural aurora only during frames when the transmitter was on. I thought your newsletter was about SW DXing and radio news, not a bulletin board for liberal crybabies. Especially foreign liberal crybabies. Why should some kangaroo fornicator care who we elect as our president? Did any of us complain when they re-elected John Howard as their PM? And why should they care what we do and who we do it to? After all, if it wasn't for our tax $'s the entire world, including Australia, would shrivel up and blow away. Maybe they also forgot that because of us, they are not goose stepping to Wagner, part of the Greater Japanese Co-Prosperity Sphere or slugging down vodka while waiting in line for their sausage ration! (Pedro Medellin from TX, DX LISTENING DIGEST) I might have instead put a link to that commentary, but didn`t feel like hunting for it. On occasions when a TIP FOR RATIONAL LIVING section appears at the very end of DXLD, you may safely disregard it. But would you object so much to some occasional political thought in DXLD if you agreed with it? Just because he`s Australian doesn`t disqualify him from opining on American politics, and a lot has happened since the US saved the world in WW II (gh, DXLD) ###
