Hi Glenn, I have a tentative log of Radio Solh on 17700 kHz from 1537 to fadeout at 1605 UT, receiving a program of music in local language. I noted in DXLD that one of their "trademark" ID's was the mention of "kiloHertz." This was heard twice in the above time period. At 1559 UTC, OM ID, including "kiloHertz," followed by the sound of thunder. Believe this is coming from a site in the UK. After checking several sources, I came up empty on a postal address for reports. Do you know of any possibilities? Thanks and 73's, (Ed Insinger, April 17, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Ed, No, I don`t. You aren`t the first to ask about this. 73, (Glenn to Ed, via DXLD) Glenn, I'll be content with having QSL'ed Radio Afghanistan back in 1973. But the music of Radio Solh is very intriguing and I did want to write and let them know. I always include non-technical information in my reception reports, for the benefit of the station and the hobby at large. Thanks for the feedback. 73's, (Ed Insinger, ibid.) Before replying I attempted to find some info on this. WRTH mentions it but with no address. PWBR has it in the bluish pages, but nowhere I can find in the white pages. The http://www.clandestineradio.com site does not even mention it under Afghanistan, being several years out of date. What a pity that site has been allowed to deteriorate (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ALASKA. Tirana back on 7425 on 4/18, for both English bcs to NAm. Forgot to say in recent logging that I did verify there was nothing on 7425 (while they were on 7465 under Alex Jones). Reception fair on 4/18, but damaged by local noise (Eric Bryan, WA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Must have just been a mistake as 7465 is used earlier to Europe. R. Tirana, Albanian to NAm, still colliding with but underneath Cairo, English to NAm, on 9460, at 2325 check April 18. We are working on getting R. (Drita Cico-ALB, Apr. 13) (DX Mix News, Bulgaria, April 16 via WORLD OF RADIO 1355, DXLD) IRRS has NOT been confirmed by R. Tirana as from either Albanian site; and it still seems unlikely; if not Albania, and not Bulgaria, WHERE IS this ``150 kW`` transmitter? (gh, DXLD) Glenn, I have no idea, where is this 150 kW transmitter. IRRS keeps this info confidential and our Monitoring Center has not radiogoniometer like DW Measurement Station in Bockhacken to find it out. Reception of 5970 kHz(? I hope I remember correctly the frequency) German CRI via Cërrik was even better than 7285 of IRRS at the same time. I made these observations myself last Friday evening at our Monitoring Center. Alfredo Cotroneo from Nexus replied me that the frequencies which we monitored last Friday and Sunday, were NOT broadcasted via Cerrik. (Pls. see emails below). (Drita Çiço, ARTV- Albanian Radiotelevision Head of Monitoring Center RADIO TIRANA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Sorry, I am checking with my management whether we can disclose the TX location, but for now it's confidential. I am quite sure that you will not get ground waves from your location. Thank you for monitoring. Best regards from South of the Alps (Ron Norton, IRRS to Drita Çiço, via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Alfredo, Do you broadcast them via Cërrik? (Drita Çiço to Alfredo Cotroneo, IRRS, via WORLD OF RADIO 1355, DXLD) No. Regards, (Alfredo E. Cotroneo, CEO, NEXUS-Int'l Broadcasting Association, to Drita, WORLD OF RADIO 1355, via DXLD) I think we could take 150 kW as meaning power output used, and not necessarily meaning that the transmitter(s) is a 150 kW unit. I assume it's IRRS that states the power and not the Bulgarians? There aren't many of 150 kW about in Europe outside of Cërrik. If Ivo Ivanov insists IRRS doesn't come via the 150 kW unit at Stolnik (or any other in that country) then maybe some thought should be given to where there are high power transmitters that can be "turned down" to radiate 150 kW or thereabouts? And there are quite a few of them available. I had a strong signal from Radio Santec on 15750 on Sunday until off at 1330, but the earlier transmissions on 7285 (1600 on Friday) and 9510 (around 1000 on Sunday) were not as strong, and suffered fading. This may indicate an eastern European location, but who knows - given the current state of the ionosphere. 73 from (Noel Green, UK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) see also ITALY [non]; OKLAHOMA [non] ** ANTARCTICA. GLBT Radio Proud FM 103.9 hits Toronto GAY, LESBIAN-TARGETED STATION HITS TORONTO RADIO DIAL Last Updated: Monday, April 16, 2007 | 1:29 PM ET CBC Arts A new station, billed as Canada's first mainstream, commercial radio station aimed at a gay and lesbian audience, hit Toronto's airwaves and launched on the internet Monday. The people behind 103.9 Proud FM say they hope to add diversity to the radio dial by exploring issues and stories relevant to Canada's gay and lesbian community — voices they say are largely unheard elsewhere. Though best known for their Life Network and CBC-TV cooking show What's For Dinner?, Ken Kostick and Mary Jo Eustace have also teamed up to host Proud FM's morning show, called What's For Breakfast? Kostick said he welcomes the chance to present more of his own perspectives to listeners of the station, operated by Rainbow Media Group Inc. "It's a wonderful opportunity for me to [say] what I want to say about the world out there," he told CBC News, adding that it hasn't been something he's been able to do, "especially on a cooking show." Comedians Deb Pearce and Maggie Cassella are among the other hosts of Proud FM shows. The station managers said they hope to attract more than 400,000 local listeners from across the city and even more via live streaming online with their mix of news and music programming. Describing its musical offerings as a blend of everything from Top 40 to hit anthems from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, the station has also vowed to play a minimum of 40 per cent Canadian content. 10-year project Proponents of the new station have been working to get the project off the ground for about 10 years. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, the country's federal broadcast regulator, approved a licence for the station last year. However, the fledgling Proud FM has already encountered some controversy. According to a report in the Globe and Mail, one of its early partners, publisher Pink Triangle Press and its influential gay and lesbian-targeted newspaper Xtra, withdrew its support from the new station because of a disagreement over elements of the approved CRTC licence. Also, others have questioned just how much of the station's staff — from management to producers to hosts — actually represent and hail from the gay and lesbian community. Controversy aside, Kostick said he hopes Proud FM will eventually spark other commercial stations to include a greater variety of voices in their own programming. In the U.S., MTV Networks counts gay and lesbian channel Logo among its offerings. Twist, a syndicated program targeting gay and "gay- adjacent" communities, also broadcasts via AOL internet radio and on FM stations in major cities across the U.S. (via Kevin Redding, ABDX via DXLD) Call sign not even mentioned (gh) ** CHILE. Ritola and J. M. Romero, I can tell you the following: - Deanovec SW site is broadcasting Voice of Croatia feed on 6165 kHz (1200-0800 UT) and on 9830 kHz (0800-1200 UT) every day - Croatian Radio 1 no longer on SW (only some portions which are included in Voice of Croatia) - German service of Voice of Croatia is finally functional, but only one 5 minute transmission per day at 1900 UT. Since this new language is still not in schedules on http://www.hrt.hr I can't tell if this is daily or just Mon-Fri. - It is possible that Voice of Croatia is broadcasting in French language also, because they planned it couple years ago. If this is true, possible airtime would be at 2100 UT or at 1800 UT. This is only my guess, because they replaced news feed from HR1- domestic at 1900 UT with a German news program, and the next HR1 news feeds in the evening are at 1800 and 2100 UT. Just to correct B. Trutenau: Yes, HRHB ((Hrvatski) Radio Herceg-Bosne) is a 24-hour program for Croatians in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but it airs programs from Mostar, which is in Bosnia. It (till now ) can be heard on FM transmitters in Bosnia and 1 FM transmitter in Croatia (near border with Bosnia). (Dragan Lekic from Subotica, Serbia, April 18, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Is German really on HR1 (Prvi program), too? Tonight I made a point of listening to this newscast on 6165: Timesignal for 1900 with two long and one very long tones, as known from Prvi program for at least ten years now, but then the ID was "hier ist das Kroatische Radio, die Stimme Kroatiens". The same at the end of this newscast, immediately followed by "posluchate Glas Hrvatske" (spelling? anyway "you are listening to Glas Hrvatske" in Croatian). Btw, vague indications for Hrvatski Radio launching news in German "at 21:00" were circulated in the German shortwave listeners scene just some days ago, mentioning a launch this Monday. I tuned in on Monday at 2100 UT but heard only Prvi program instead, indicating that this was meant to be the CET time instead (Kai Ludwig, ibid.) And for Europe from 2PM to 10AM local time at 6165 kilohertz and from 10AM to 2PM at 9830 kilohertz. The Voice of Croatia can also be heard via the internet at http://www.hrt.hr (via Dmitriy Kutuzov, Ryazan, Russia, ibid.) Apparently transcribed from a schedule announcement; matches 08-12 UT 9830, and 12-08 6165 (gh, DXLD) ** CUBA [and non]. Re 7-038, the Socialist station in Habana on 1010 kHz, 1943-1948y: Here is what I have found on 1010 kHz from Havana. It was assigned as a 1-B Clear Channel in the 1940 agreement. It has always been protected by US stations at night, and in the day by the 50,000 watter in Tampa with a deep null to Havana, day and night. Jacksonville on 1010 now protects them with a deep null, but did not when they were a one kW daytimer. Crestview, in the panhandle, had a one kW daytimer now gone, but they did not protect Havana. Again, I will find more soon, but for now: 1931- 2OL Havana on 1000 kHz-100 watts shares time with 2HP Havana on 1016 kHz- 100 watts, and 6BY Cienfuegos on 1000 kHz- 100 watts. 1932- 1010 kHz- CMBW Havana 150 watts shares time with CMBZ Havana with 150 watts. 1936- CMBZ has moved to 1000 kHz with 150 watts. CMBW is gone. 1010 kHz is now occupied by CMJA Camagüey with 50 watts. 1942- 1010 kHz- CMX Havana with 25,000 watts. CMBZ Havana has moved to 950 kHz with 5,000 watts day, 1,000 watts night. CMJA Camagüey has moved to 1060 kHz with 250 watts. 1946- 1010 kHz- CMX Havana now down to 10,000 watts, with a shortwave relay COCX on 11650 with 1,000 watts. [this must be the one --- gh] 1950- 1010 kHz- CMX Havana now gone. 1010 kHz is now CMZ Havana (From 1260 kHz) with 10,000 watts DA. 1951- 1010 kHz CMZ now with 5,000 watts Non-DA with a CP for 25,000 watts DA. 1958- 1010 kHz is now CMBQ with 5,000 watts. Holds a CP for 25,000 watts Non-DA. CMZ Havana has moved to 1560 kHz (A Cuban Clear Channel) with 5,000 watts. 1968- CMBQ Havana has moved to 1060 kHz with 5,000 watts day, 1,000 watts night. 1010 kHz is now occupied by CMKM Holguín with 5,000 watts. 1974- 1010 kHz has CMKM Holguín with 5,000 watts, and CMAS Pinar del Rio with 250 watts. 1983- 1010 kHz CMKM Holguín is now CMKE down to 1,000 watts. Also on 1010 kHz is CMAM Guane with 10,000 watts (It was on 1000 kHz with 250 watts), and CMGE Sancti-Spíritus with 250 watts. (CMAS Pinar del Río is now CMAL on 990 kHz with 1,000 watts.) Certainly an interesting frequency. It looks like the post-1951 25,000 watt CP's with or without a directional antenna were never built. As I mentioned, many dates to fill in, but I hope this is a good enough start on its early history. Regards, (Brock Whaley, GA, April 16, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ECUADOR. HCJB TO START DRM TESTS TO WESTERN NORTH AMERICA Doug, HC7AW, of HCJB in Quito writes: ”Starting on April 17th, HCJB will be doing some test transmissions to the western USA on 15680 KHz. We will start at 1600 UTC and go until 0200 UTC. The propagation is pretty bad for getting to the Western USA during the day, so we will start at 9 kbps and gradually move up to 17 kbps like we did for the eastern USA a few weeks ago. We plan to do the test for 2 weeks (through the 29th) unless the reception is so bad that no one can decode us. We then plan to move to the eastern USA and then eventually to Europe.” (Source: HCJB via DRM Software Radio Forums) (April 17th, 2007 - 8:51 UTC by Andy, Media Network blog via DXLD) Checked HCJB`s new DRM test for WNAm on 15675-15680-15685, April 18 at 1715; rather weak, only S3-4 so doubt it would decode. Checked five different online DRM schedules and none of them give the azimuth for this, just the 4 kW power, and dates 4-17 to 4/29. (Axually they all may be derived from the same database.) By comparison, GUF DRM on 17870-17875-17880 was hitting 7 over S9, and the skeds finally show the latter as M-F only as we have been noticing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) I can't check the log yet, but HCJB is back on the air with GREAT decode. Yeah, it drops out, but I get whole songs and various talk between songs. There was a guy playing Ecuadorian music with exclusive banter and drops regarding this "DRM release"! Woohoo! HCJB comes through for us again. What a gift (my birthday was last week) to get exclusive DRM programming! So where are all the other world broadcasters? C'mon guys! HCJB is a private, Christian, non- profit. At any rate, they couldn't make a guy happier. Thanks HCJB for proving DRM works and is viable, even on lower power gear from nearly half a world away. The folk music and Jazz are great. I'm not a big fan of newer Christian music, but I'll take it! Since IRRS seems mostly selling time to typical gospel huxters, why all the secrecy as to whereabouts of transmitter? I could see if transmissions like R. Free Asia, where host country might not want location made known for "diplomatic" reasons, or to try to make it slightly more difficult for potential jammers, but who in the world would care where religious plate-passers are transmitting from? Seems somewhat silly to me. Anyone else have similar feelings? (Alex Vranes, Jr. (location secret ;-D) dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) This discussion has gone on for a long time. As I said previously, such secrecy raises suspicions that something underhanded is being done, e.g., somebody taking a payoff to run the broadcasts without the owner knowing about it. Could also be that the transmitter owner does not wish to be openly associated with the gospel huxters IRRS broadcasts, and has made that a condition of the contract, if any. However, this would not be a barrier if the Chicom are involved, as they openly broadcast via CVC Chile transmitters. ANZAC Day 2007 Radio Salute --- The Radio Heritage Foundation http://www.radioheritage.net has released its ANZAC Day Radio Salute for 2007. [note: ANZAC Day is the shared Australia & New Zealand war memorial day held on April 25] This year, it's a photo gallery of the various Australian Army Amenities Service radio stations that served listeners throughout the South West Pacific in 1945, as well as the NZ National Broadcasting Service Mobile Recording Units based in the Middle East and the Pacific. Popular radio announcers from the ABC, NZBS and Australian commercial radio stations served at these units, entertaining troops with music, news and sports and taking their voices back home. Stations such as 9AC Torokina [Bougainville] were heard by many. Returned servicemen who were involved with these entertainment units, who have memories of listening to them, or who served with radio communications units are invited to contact the Radio Heritage Foundation. Also at http://www.radioheritage.net you'll find a full list of these AAAS stations in the article 'Diggers On Air', as well as lots of information about the US Armed Forces Radio stations from the Jungle Network, China-Burma-India theater, Japan and Alaska. Many of these were also familiar listening to ANZAC forces in the SW Pacific and elsewhere [such as Japan], as well as the Mosquito Network stations such as WVUS New Caledonia and 1ZM Auckland... and you'll easily find items on many of these stations at the website. The Radio Heritage Foundation is a registered charity protecting old radio memorabilia and sharing stories about Pacific radio. In coming months, watch out for Ulric Williams story of setting up the NZ Radio Station AKAA in Japan, as well as items about the more recent Armed Forces Korea Network, and the popular Armed Forces Vietnam Network. Please let your readers know about the ANZAC Day 2007 Radio Salute and invite them to visit http://www.radioheritage.net to find out more. We're grateful to the editorial team at 'Stand To' - National Newspaper of the Australian RSL [Returned Services League] for their coverage of our activities in their February-March 2007 issue. End Is Near For Analog Radio In U.K. The British Government may be about to come up with a switch-off date for analog radio broadcast on the AM and FM bands. Industry regulator OFCOMm has proposed that licensing of the AM radio spectrum should be reviewed within two years with a review of the FM spectrum to follow in 2012, according to a reports by ELECTRONICS WEEKLY. This would bring an analogue radio switch-off into a similar timescale to that proposed for the analogue TV switch-off. But this could happen sooner. OFCOM believes switch-off should happen when "digital listening accounts for 50% of all listening." "Existing analog commercial radio licences will expire between 2009 and 2027, depending upon the date of issue. Under current legislation, these licences would be re-advertised. However, in the future this spectrum might be better used for other services such as mobile television, more digital radio, more community radio services or other new technologies," said OFCOM in a discussion paper (allaccess.com via Brock Whaley, GA, Greg Hardison, CA, for DXLD) Another version: Story from BBC NEWS: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/hi/entertainment/6564983.stm (via Dan Say, DXLD) Viz.: AM RADIO BROADCASTS COULD END IN TWO YEARS by Richard Wilson, Wednesday 18 April 2007 http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Articles/2007/04/18/41199/AM+radio+broadcasts+could+end+in+two+years.htm The Government may be about to come up with a switch-off date for analogue radio broadcast on the AM and FM bands. Industry regulator Ofcom has proposed that licensing of the AM (medium wave) radio spectrum should be reviewed within two years with a review of the FM spectrum to follow in 2012. This would bring an analogue radio switch-off into a similar timescale to that proposed for the analogue TV switch-off. But this could happen sooner. Ofcom believes switch-off should happen when “digital listening accounts for 50% of all listening”. While Ofcom said there are no immediate plans to switch-off analogue (FM and AM) radio it pointed out that “current trends suggest that 90% of all radio listening will be via digital platforms by 2017”. “Existing analogue commercial radio licences will expire between 2009 and 2027, depending upon the date of issue. Under current legislation, these licences would be re-advertised. However, in the future this spectrum might be better used for other services such as mobile television, more digital radio, more community radio services or other new technologies,” said Ofcom in a discussion paper. Ofcom believes that Government may wish to consider how to allow it to achieve common end-dates for all FM and AM licences. “This will be a key question as digital radio listening continues to grow,” said the regulator. “Radio remains important to many consumers, but the environment which it operates in is changing. It is essential that regulation reflects this. The proposals we outline today seek to ensure a vibrant and innovative UK radio sector,” said Ed Richards, Ofcom’s chief executive. News 24/7 will inaugurate programming on Wednesday, April 18 - Independence Day in Zimbabwe - broadcasting from Gweru, capital of Midlands Province. Reports said the around-the-clock news operation is being funded by Iran at a cost of Z$8.9 billion - about US$35.6 million at the official exchange rate though more like US$6 million at the prevailing parallel market rate of Z$15,000 per greenback. Information Minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu declined to comment on the new station until after it is launched next Wednesday. Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga confirmed to parliament earlier this year that the government is jamming foreign broadcasts from VOA's Studio 7 and London-based SW Radio Africa. Zimbabwe has not authorized any private broadcasters to operate. Gweru residents told correspondent Taurai Shava of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that they consider the shortwave project to be a waste of money given that the state broadcasting monopoly already operates a number of radio stations. Media analysts said Harare's launch of the station would further tighten its grip on an already constricted media environment, and that its statement that it wants to tell "the true Zimbabwe story,” means that it wants to spread its own propaganda wider. News 24/7 will operate under state-controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings and will be headed by former senior ZBC broadcaster Happison Muchechetere. For perspective on the new media venture, reporter Ndimyake Mwakalyelye turned to experts Andrew Moyse, coordinator of the Media Monitoring Project of Zimbabwe, and Rashweat Mukundu, director of the Media Institute of Southern Africa in Zimbabwe (via Zacharias Liangas, DXLD) Incredibly, none of the press coverage of this gives any hint whatsoever about what the frequencies will be. I wonder if they even know at the station. DXers may discover them first, if it`s not vaporware (Glenn Hauser, April 17, DXLD) ** ZIMBABWE [and non]. Today (18 April) SW Radio Africa is adding 11775, 11810, 11975 and 12035 for its 1700-1900 broadcast. The usual 4880 continues, so 5 frequencies in total. On a separate Zimbabwe- related point, News24 radio was due to start by today. Is anyone hearing it? (Chris Greenway, UK, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) 12035, SW Radio Africa, *1700-1811, April 18, appropriately they started more coverage on their Independence Day. Mostly in English. Many IDs for SW Radio Africa, program "Call Back" (gives Zimbabwe phone number, international number and also e-mail), caller says "nothing to celebrate in Zimbabwe", BoH "Newsreel, the news you need to hear" (Zimbabwe Youth Movement rally broken up by police, etc.), started out poor but gradually got better. Nothing heard on 11810 or 11975. On 11775, could only hear religious program in English (Gene Scott?). They have audio streaming at their website: http://www.swradioafrica.com/ (Ron Howard, Monterey, CA, Etón E5, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Monitored SW Radio Africa (they say Ess-Double-U, not ``shortwave``) April 18 on the first day with additional frequencies on the 25m band, 11775, 11810, 11975 and 12035, now audiblizing it even for us in CNAm. Tnx to tip from Chris Greenway; nothing about this found yet on the SWRA website just before the broadcast, but three of them do appear when rechecked at 2157. Started at 1700 but did not tune in until 1709. As expected, 11775 was totally blocked here by Defunct Gene Scott, Anguilla. 11810 was inaudible, altho at 1801 recheck something was barely audible, but could not be sure it was // others with SWRA. SWRA was quite audible on the other two, the better by far being 11975, which was a steady signal, about one sesquisecond behind weaker and fluttery 12035. So I stayed on 11975 with occasional chex of 12035 and the others. Programming was mostly in English; an interview show in progress was identified as ``Callback`` at 1718. No jamming was ever noted tho there were some extraneous noises at times, seemingly from the phone connexion to the interviewee. At 1730 began ``Newsreel``, and at 1733 I started rolling tape for the rest of the broadcast. Mentioned they now had ``multiple frequencies`` but no details yet. Some of the accented English was hard to understand here. 1740 another mention of Newsreel; 1751 ID and into interview mixing vernacular with English, about people who had been imprisoned, etc. The vernacular included English words or expressions periodically, making one wonder if the rest of it was really some kind of English. Perhaps someone can explain some easy ways to distinguish Shona from Ndebele. 1802 ID, ``SW Radio Africa, Zimbabwe`s independent voice`` and Newsreel continued with headlines. Most of this was about Zim`s independence day, but nothing to celebrate tnx to what Mugabe has done to the country. 1806 another mention of multiple frequencies, and finally some music. By this time 11975 had improved to even better reception than at the beginning. Finally at 1811 gave 4880, 11775, 11810 and 12035, but not the one I was listening to, 11975, which is considered experimental. 1812 ``In the Balance`` promoting independence day speeches to follow by opposition leaders, and ``Letter from the Diaspora``. 1829 in progress a commentary on Mugabe from Mrs. Grace Mugabe`s presumed point of view. 1831 ``Reporters` Forum``. Taped the rest but have not listened to it yet. So some of the new frequencies are quite successful here and give us a chance to listen to SWRA. The only minor interference problem was chirping from Rai on 11970 at 1734, but after the IS was over, no problem, including music at lower audio frequencies at 1749. This step-up in SWRA transmissions on short notice eclipses the much- publicized ``News 24`` external SW service the Mugabe regime is supposedly starting today. None of the press about it has ever given any hint as to frequencies. All we can do is suggest trying the existing domestic SW frequencies, 3306 or 3396 or 4828, or in the daytime 6045. If News 24 actually starts on additional frequencies, that will mean fewer transmitters available for jamming SWRA and other opposition transmissions; what a coincidence. While I was monitoring SWRA, I also checked VOA`s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe on 15775 --- Morocco, but switches to São Tomé at 1800-1830. At 1714 it was F-G at peaks, in non-English. It`s no coincidence either that there is a pile-up of opposition broadcasts at the same hour, not only since it is prime evening time, but to strain the jamming resources: V. of the People, via Madagascar is at 1700-1800 on 7120, but of course not audible here at mid-day (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Solar-terrestrial indices for 17 April follow. Solar flux 69 and mid- latitude A-index 8. The mid-latitude K-index at 1800 UTC on 18 April was 2 (16 nT). No space weather storms were observed for the past 24 hours. No space weather storms are expected for the next 24 hours (SEC via DXLD) There is a really remarkable collision on 11775: From 1800 (carrier on always some minutes earlier) this frequency is occupied by the Chinese Kashi site, carrying CRI in German, here in eastern Germany entirely overriding SWRA (if the faint carrier I had on 11775 was them at all). I suspect the Kashi signal still provides some "nice" jamming in Zimbabwe. On 4880 I heard immediately after 1800 an equal mix of presumed SWRA- Meyerton and a numbers station, neither CynthIA nor Lincolnshire Poacher but something else (still familiar, insiders would no doubt recognize the origin), resulting in a mess with heavy SAH here. Coincidence or another kind of jamming? The other frequencies were in the clear; 11975 quite faint, 12035 and 11810 (the latter with a one syllable delay) rather strong (Kai Ludwig, Germany, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hello Glenn, I'm hearing SW R Africa as I'm writing this mail (1845 z) with fair/good signals on both 11975 and 12035 kHz. 11810,11775 and 4880 are not being heard at my place, maybe due to strong local RFI from the PC!! The period began as a recurrent coronal hole high speed stream moved into a geoeffective position. Solar wind speed at ACE initially increased to approximately 490 km/s, while the IMF Bz fluctuated between +11 to -8 nT by midday on 09 April. The geomagnetic field responded with unsettled to active conditions at high latitudes while middle latitudes observed quiet to unsettled conditions. Solar wind speed declined slightly early on 10 April before increasing again to a maximum of 560 km/s early on 12 April. The IMF Bz fluctuated between +9 to -6 nT just after midday on 10 April, causing unsettled conditions in the geomagnetic field. By 11 April through early on 12 April, the IMF Bz did not vary much between +/-3 nT. By midday on 12 April, a prolonged period of southward Bz caused minor storm conditions at high latitudes, while only quiet to unsettled conditions were observed at middle latitudes. Thereafter, until the end of the period, the solar wind speed declined to background levels. The geomagnetic field was quiet at middle and high latitudes. FORECAST OF SOLAR AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY 18 APRIL - 14 MAY 2007 Solar activity is expected to continue at very low levels. No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels on 18 April and again during 29 April - 07 May. Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels through 19 April. A recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream is expected to disturb the field during 20 - 21 April. Predominantly unsettled to minor storm levels are expected with isolated major storm periods possible. Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected during 22 - 27 April. Another round of coronal hole effects is expected during 28 - 29 April with unsettled to major storm conditions expected. Mostly quiet conditions are expected for the balance of the period. :Product: 27-day Space Weather Outlook Table 27DO.txt :Issued: 2007 Apr 17 2253 UTC # Prepared by the US Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Environment Center # Product description and SEC contact on the Web # http://www.sec.noaa.gov/wwire.html # # 27-day Space Weather Outlook Table # Issued 2007 Apr 17 # # UTC Radio Flux Planetary Largest # Date 10.7 cm A Index Kp Index 2007 Apr 18 70 5 2 2007 Apr 19 70 10 3 2007 Apr 20 70 15 5 2007 Apr 21 70 10 4 2007 Apr 22 70 8 3 2007 Apr 23 70 8 3 2007 Apr 24 70 8 3 2007 Apr 25 70 5 2 2007 Apr 26 70 5 2 2007 Apr 27 70 5 2 2007 Apr 28 70 25 6 2007 Apr 29 70 15 5 2007 Apr 30 70 10 4 2007 May 01 70 5 2 2007 May 02 70 5 2 2007 May 03 70 5 2 2007 May 04 70 5 2 2007 May 05 70 5 2 2007 May 06 70 8 3 2007 May 07 70 8 3 2007 May 08 70 8 3 2007 May 09 70 8 3 2007 May 10 70 5 2 2007 May 11 70 5 2 2007 May 12 70 5 2 2007 May 13 70 5 2 2007 May 14 70 5 2 (http://www.sec.noaa.gov/radio via WORLD OF RADIO 1355, DXLD) ###
